Associate Director of Policy & Politics Research

National Journal is hiring an Associate Director of Policy & Politics Research who will help lead our Concierge service. 

National Journal is a premier research and insights company committed to helping organizations effectively navigate Washington. 

With our Concierge service, our team of research analysts, data analysts, and designers execute quick research projects, distilling complex issues into engaging slide decks, newsletters, one-pagers, and more.

Position in Brief: 

National Journal is looking for an action-oriented, solutions-inclined leader who can guide analysts, coach them on how to extract insightful takeaways from policy and politics-related stories. This leader will also be responsible for setting a clear direction and motivating their team to accomplish individual and collective goals.  

There are three key elements to the Associate Director of Policy & Politics Research:

  1. Directly managing 2-4 research analysts who produce timely, relevant, and impactful deliverables for clients in the government affairs and public policy community. These deliverables include presentations, infographics, data visualizations, and more. 

  2. Informally coaching two project managers, each of which also has 2-4 research analysts reporting to them

  3. Building systems and processes that can help drive future growth for the Concierge service.

Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of experience preferred in relevant fields such as consulting, research, or policy communications

  • Solutions-oriented mindset with an inclination toward action, urgency, and results 

  • A skilled project manager with the ability to juggle many competing priorities and adhere to strict deadlines 

  • An interest and/or experience working in politics and/or policy with an aptitude to consume and analyze broad policy areas and the political process 

  • Demonstrated adaptability and open-minded attitude 

  • Utilizes data to transform strategy and proactively adapt processes when necessary

  • Experience in project management software, preferably Wrike.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel. 

  • Highly motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit, capable of taking ownership, making quick decisions, and meeting steep goals

  • Active contributor to a diverse and inclusive workplace 

  • Prodigious work ethic and spirit of generosity

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000

Location: This job is based in Washington, DC. National Journal operates on a hybrid schedule, with employees required to be in the office every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
